Wait , There Are Prizes ?
If you know me, or really anyone in the Care family, then you'll know that we have a gentle(!) competitive spirit. So it turns out that Regent has multiple competitions every day and awards "Regent Rewards Points" to the winners. See photo. You can cash these points in at the end of any trip segment for prizes ranging from key rings and bookmarks to rain jackets and some nice UV shirts.
The events vary from the intellectual (Mensa quizzes and Trivia) to the gently athletic (ring toss and indoor golf putting) to the more physical ping-pong and eventually pickleball (Yes! They have a court at the back of deck 12). Some are individual competitions, and others, like Trivia, use a team of 6. Although, as mentioned, we're not competitive, our team has been #1 and #2 in Trivia; John is an indoor obstacle-putting champion but has no ring toss skills whatsoever.
As well as being a neat way to meet folks, it also keeps you busy on a sea day if you can't hang out by the pool and sun. Today's weather was Gale Force 7 - so 30-35mph winds, 10-12 foot wave swells, and a generally bumpy ride. Not much happening outside! Our cabin is towards the front of the boat and on Deck 11, so we definitely feel the motion of the ocean - but it's really not too bad. Lesson learned, though. If you know there is rough weather coming, check the cabin for any loose, rattle-y objects. We were woken up at 4am by a makeup mirror banging against some tile and the safe in the closet swinging open and shut.
Tomorrow we reach Cartagena in Columbia at 7am, departing at 2pm. I'm doing a walking tour of the old city - it's also the site of an ignominious 1741 British naval defeat, so I'll hear plenty about that - and Allison is visiting the Fortress and Palace of Inquisition (because nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!).
Columbia sounds beautiful, and so close to home. Maybe even a direct flight from Tampa. Have fun and thanks for taking us along for the ride. Any board gamers on board?
ReplyDeleteYep. Allison is already connected with the card players and we’re working on board games.
DeletePickleball is good. Hope they have a tournament and you win!
